A Day in the Life Of... Willow Tree Distilling

A Day in the Life Of... Willow Tree Distilling
For the next edition of 'A Day in the Life Of...' we spoke to Millie Alston the Marketing and Events Manager of Willow Tree Distilling, an award-winning gin distillery in Bedfordshire. Read on to hear her behind the scenes look at a typical day in their business...

First task of the morning?

The start to the day for us is always a rush, we live particularly busy lives spinning plates but one thing that is always consistent is, it starts with a coffee. Whether we are out with the dog (Gin), children or straight in the car to events, a coffee will be in hand.

And just like that, it’s mid-morning already…

As time flies and two days are never the same our routine is not regimented, on days we are distilling we are bound to the distillery. One of the great things about being based next door to a Farm Shop is we can utilise the café for snacks!

It’s lunch time!

Lunchtime is one of the most valuable slots in our day, it is a time when we regroup, talk about an event or a meeting or even just distract ourselves from a document we’ve been looking at for too long. When working in such a small team we rely on our communication skills and ensure to make the most out of a break in whatever way is needed.

Afternoon pick-me up?

As the day continues into the afternoon it comes to preparation with stock, catching up with marketing content or all hands on deck with bottling and labelling. Depending on the time of year, summer is usually spent on production and trying out new recipes, coming up to winter our space would replicate Santa’s grotto with a conveyer belt operation of all things G&T!

It’s time to wind down!

At the end of the day, time is typically spent with family and animals! Although with dinner we do like to indulge in a G&T because it would be rude not to..

The Next Chapter for Speciality & Fine Food Fair

From 2027, Speciality & Fine Food Fair will take place 5 – 7 April at Excel London, as part of Food, Drink & Hospitality Week to be the UK’s largest food & drink trade event.

This exciting move will connect our incredible community of speciality producers and buyers with 25,000+ verified trade visitors, creating even more opportunities for products to be discovered, tasted and stocked by buyers across retail, hospitality, wholesale and foodservice.

To prepare for this exciting launch, the Fair will not be taking place in 2026, returning in its new format in 2027.

While the scale grows, the heart of the Fair stays the same - a curated showcase of exceptional producers and a spirit of discovery, now with even greater commercial reach.

We’re incredibly excited about this next chapter and can’t wait to build it with you.
