After fire ravaged the estate's 1930 tea factory in 2022, the Rosyth Estate has embarked on a journey to create a new artisanal tea factory, breathing life into Sri Lanka's historic tea traditions.
A Blossoming Social Enterprise: With a strong commitment to the welfare and development of the local community, this social enterprise initiative is set to become a beacon of hope, sharing the fruits of success with its employees, and contributing 10% of its turnover back to the community, it's a transformative project designed to make a tangible difference in the lives of those working on the estate & the long term viability of the estate.

Reimagining Tea Production with Tradition and Quality: Under the guidance of the owners and a new team, the initiative starts with extensive replanting of the tea fields, moving towards organic cultivation. Since 2023 more than 10,000 new plants were planted.  A fresh approach to plucking has been adopted. Only the freshest leaves and buds are carefully plucked and sorted before being hand-processed through withering, rolling, fermentation, and drying. This small-batch production ensures meticulous attention to quality at every step, resulting in a refined and distinctive taste that captures the essence of Ceylon tea.

Dream Realized in Record Time: The construction of the micro factory has been fast-tracked & The team has been expertly trained, and the partnership with other artisanal manufacturers and the Ceylon Artisanal Tea Association (CATA) promises to deliver the highest quality hand-crafted teas.

A Sustainable Enterprise with Global Aspirations: Currently, teas manufactured on the Rosyth Estate are available at the hotel's boutique and served to hotel guests. As production capacity increases, Rosyth Tea is set to be part of the growing artisanal tea exports catering to discerning tea connoisseurs around the world.

Preserving a Legacy: The Rosyth Estate, situated in the Sabaragamuwa Province at an elevation of 1,000 feet, holds a rich history since its establishment in 1926. Owned by the Marikkar/Dobbs family since the late 1970s, the estate has undergone transformation in recent years.
