Jersey Dairy Scoops Top Award
Jersey Dairy has won ‘The Grocer Own Label Award’ for its ‘Tesco Finest Jersey Extra Thick Cream’. The Jersey cream beat two top rival finalist products (Asda Extra Special Chantilly Cream and Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Farmhouse Butter with Cornish Sea Salt) to scoop the coveted award in the Butter and Cream section.
The accolade was announced on Wednesday at The Grocer Own Label Food and Drink Awards ceremony held in The Wyndham Grand in Chelsea Harbour in London.
Jersey Dairy has been supplying Tesco with Tesco Finest Jersey Extra Thick Cream since September 2010 and Jersey Butter since August.
The finalist products were judged using a careful mix of consumer and expert tasting panels. The Tesco Finest Jersey Extra Thick Cream samples were given to a minimum group of 50 consumers who tested and tasted the product in their homes. They were asked to judge the visual appearance, the taste, texture, and packaging along with value for money and whether they would buy the product after the trial.
The cream was then evaluated by an expert panel who judged it on the similar set of criteria including taste, texture, appearance, packaging, value for money and labelling.
‘Jersey Dairy are very proud to have won this National award, particularly during our first year of production in our new site in Trinity,’ said Managing Director Eamon Fenlon. ‘The success of this product will allow us to develop a version for the Jersey market and underlines our continued focus on bringing the best new products to the Island. The Jersey Dairy branding is rolling out across Britain and we now supply 6 wholesale customers with Soft Mix ice-cream ranging from Scotland and Northern Ireland, down to the South Coast of England. This represents a significant step forward in our export ambitions and of course not only increases the national profile of Jersey Dairy, but also of Jersey as a whole.’
Other categories up for awards at ‘The Grocer Own Label Food and Drink Awards’ event included bakery, chilled products, desserts, fish, fresh produce, general grocery and soft drinks.
‘The Grocer’ is the only paid for weekly magazine to serve the food and drink retail sector and covers every aspect of the industry. Readers include growers, food processors and manufacturers.
