TOPPING FAMILY WIN ELITE GOLD GREAT TASTE AWARD FOR SPECIALITY PIE
Traditional, family-run pie maker, The Topping Pie Company of Doncaster, has won an elite 3 Star Gold rating for its new chicken and smoked ham speciality pork pie from the Great Taste Awards, organised by The Guild of Fine Food. The Great Taste Awards is the UK’s most renowned food awards employing the country’s most rigorous judging system to ensure the fairest, most accurate and trusted results.
The company also picked up two further 1 Star Gold ratings in the cooked pie class for its new Yorkshire pasty and new Hot chilli beef pie, part of the new premium hot eating pie range. The chicken and smoked ham pork pie, available in Booths stores, won the much coveted faultless award, the only pie in this category to win the rating in the cold cut pie, other meat based category. These new awards brings the Great Taste Awards total for Toppings to 28.
Roger Topping, managing director of The Topping Pie Company said: "We are absolutely delighted that our chicken and smoked ham pie has picked up the much coveted 3 Star Gold rating Great Taste Award. Both Maggie and I are proud to produce premium quality products made to original family recipes using the very best local ingredients. It's fantastic for our pie to be showcased as an elite product by the most trusted and recognised food and drink awards. To win a Great Taste Award is to speciality food what Michelin is to fine dining, so we would like to thank the Guild of Fine Food for this honour."

The 2011 Great Taste Awards attracted a record number of entries. In total, more than 6000 food and drink products were blind-tasted, tested and discussed during two months of intense judging by more than 300 judges, comprising food writers, chefs, deli and farm shop owners, food producers and buyers.

The Guild of Fine Food’s Bob Farrand commented of this year’s entries “It’s so exciting to see the standards of food and drink in the British Isles go from strength to strength, year after year, proving that for those who enjoy great food - it’s there to be discovered”. Farrand continued, “We have worked hard to ensure our judging process is as robust as possible. Judging teams are balanced in terms of experience, background and even gender and every Gold Award winning entry has been independently proven to be of the highest standard”.

Notes to editors-
• The one, two and three star ratings are established on the premise that a one star is a perfect food or drink, a two star is absolutely sublime and three star is that moment you turn to the person next to you and exclaim ‘ Wow! You must try this, it’s amazing!”
