Started in food retailing in 1988 as a trainee manager at Cullen's after doing a degree in hotel & institutional management. Became a Cullen's franchise in 1990 Opened new concept stores - Cullen's patisserie and Cullen's Express in 1991. Rejoined the head office team in 1993 as commercial director and was then managing director. When company was sold in 1997 I started Bayley & Sage in Wimbledon. Eventually took over Elizabeth King in 2010 and then Mortimer & Bennett in 2015 and two further stores since then.
Adrian Beale is the Co-Founder and Sales & Marketing Director for Buckley & Beale, an importer, distributor and wholesaler of speciality foods based in South Gloucestershire. He has over 20 years sales and marketing experience, 11 in the automotive industry, 5 in food retail, and the last 6 with Buckley & Beale. Adrian Co-Founded Buckley & Beale in January 2011 and has been actively involved in supporting small speciality food producers ever since, speaking at conferences and events on the importance of packaging, pricing, making the most of exhibiting and what buyers are looking for.
Paul Hargreaves is a well-known character within the speciality food world both for his insightful views on the sector, independent retailing, and general business “know how”. Paul’s blog “Speciality Bites” is widely read by retailers and producers alike, and he is often asked to contribute to debates and articles within the industry. His background includes an M.A. in Zoology and 10 years in the charitable sector in inner-city London. He became involved in the Bala Children’s Centre seven years ago, as a way of giving back to the wider world community.
30 years’ commercial experience in the industry, has provided Jane with a unique perspective on food from ideation to marketing and given her a strong network globally across the industry. Jane helps businesses identify their unique assets and capitalise on these. Outside the UK, she is accredited to work with Swiss businesses, has worked with trade boards and governments from several European and Caribbean countries and recently with Horticulture Innovation Australia. Jane has a unique relationship with many UK and Irish supermarkets, convenience groups and food halls through her strategic roles in food industry awards.
Award winning chef, pâtissier and chocolatier, Waitrose Consultant, TV chef and presenter, Will has worked with top chefs including Jamie Oliver, James Martin, Nathan Outlaw and more, as well as at The Dorchester, Claridges, The Lanesborough and The Fat Duck. In addition, his TV appearances include BBC’s Blue Peter, The Apprentice, Sweet Baby James and Ready Steady Cook, Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club and ITV’s This Morning. He has been extensively profiled by the British press including The Times, Guardian, Metro, Food and Travel and many more.
Steve Walpole has been passionate about food and cooking since he started a Saturday job in a local restaurant at the age of 15. He went on to gain a whole host of college qualifications, diplomas and awards including Awards of Excellence winner in 2000, Parade de Chefs medals, Roux Scholarship finalist, Advanced Culinary Arts diplomas. With this wealth of experience and knowledge under his belt as an award-winning food consultant and freelance chef, Steve is now Head of Food at Ugo Foods, the country’s leading fresh pasta manufacturer.
