Fine Food Finds from SFFF17

At the start of this month, buyers from delis, restaurants, airlines and all across retail discovered exciting trends emerging and innovative products from over 700 exhibitors at Speciality & Fine Food Fair.

The Fair saw everything from functional teas and raw chocolate, to gourmet fruit lollies and gin with collagen. Settling back into the office, we asked the team to share their finds from the three day food and drink adventure…

Kara Bowen, Event Manager, Fresh Montgomery

Kara Bowen, Event Manager:

“It was great to discover /shrb - a perfect non-alcoholic, but still grown up drink! Made with a vinegar base, there’s still an alcohol-like kick, but the sodas they create are low-sugar and have complex botanical palate. I’d recommend the Lime Juniper – fresh limes, the berries, pink popcorns and lavender!”

Kayleigh Williams, Operations Executive:

“I was so impressed by Risenta AB, the guys I met on the stand were friendly, passionate and enthusiastic – a real reflection of their products which are fantastic, innovative and delicious!

We spoke about how they tend to market at vegan festivals and find that at non-vegan shows the audience seem a little more sceptical; I really feel with such a delicious and interesting product this shouldn’t be the case for much longer.

Currently available in Sweden, their product range – including bean paste pasta, innovative flours, chickpea balls - is completely Free From artificial ingredients and will provide plenty of new options for people who value healthy lifestyles.”

Salted Egg Snacks (Potato Chips and Fish Skin) Georgina Preston, Portfolio Marketing Manager

“Having initially met the team behind Irvins Salted Egg at Speciality & Fine Food Asia, I’m delighted to see them trying to bring the product to the UK market!

Wrapped in their fun and distinctive packaging, these hand-crafted Salted Egg Snacks (available as Potato Chips or Fish Skins!) are the perfectly salty accompaniment for a cold refreshing beer. If you didn’t get to try them yourself, the best way I could describe them would be an interesting (in a good way), almost pork crackling like texture with the egg on the outside, compliment with the thin yummy crispiness inside.”

Tom Meek, Commercial Manager:

“It’s impossible to pick a product that I like most from Biddenden; their wines are all estate grown and their famous Strong Kentish Cider is also produced at their Kent-based vineyard from local apples and pears. The Cider – created from a traditional family recipe – is smooth, with a refreshing apple flavour provided by the quality dessert apples they use.

They do also do a range of juices from the same apples and last year launched the UK’s first naturally red apple juice. A truly ‘home-grown’ brand that deserves to be supported!”

Anastasia Yates, Senior Marketing Executive:

“I had never heard of Solkiki Chocolatemaker before, but happened to cross paths with their founder Bob at the Fair and am so glad I did!

Tahitian Nougat Chocolate Bar

Before I wax lyrical about the taste, I should point out that all their bars are direct trade and organic. They also don’t dilute their chocolate with low grade fats – so as well as being good for the environment, the bars are almost good for you (almost).

I would recommend their 68% Marañón with Whisky Nibs, which won bronze at the International Chocolate Awards this year – as well as last year’s Bronze Winner the Tahitian Nougat and Salty Peanut”

Daniel Gray, honorary Speciality Team Member and Event Manager for our sister show IFE:

“It was great to be introduced to new brand Revolicious who have created a trio of plant-based smoothie bowls – very nice, healthy products for the food-to-go market.

I’ll also be purchasing from Holy Cow! Food Co., makers of delicious handmade curry sauces. (They also sponsor a free school meal with every pack). And from the great team at Nordisk – the Nordic Pantry. They are really leveraging their Nordic heritage as part of their brand and have created great bottled soups that can be made up simply by mixing with 250ml of whipped cream.”
